our Research grade testing

No two athletes move—or perform—the same. At The Gait Lab, we combine research-grade gait analysis, VO₂ max, and strength testing to give you a complete understanding of how your body moves and performs. With precision data and expert interpretation, we uncover the root causes behind your injuries and performance limitations — identifying how your body moves, where it compensates, and what it needs to perform optimally.

As one of the only clinics in the country bringing this level of technology into a clinical setting, The Gait Lab delivers the kind of insight that turns numbers into real progress.

Real testing. Real data. Real progress

Unparalled Precision:

Get tested so you can stop guessing and start training with clarity. When you know exactly how your body moves, you can fix what’s holding you back and build the performance you’re actually capable of.

Gait Analysis test

Schedule
  • Gait Analysis Test
Our gait analysis uses a markerless 3D motion-capture system synchronized with a research-grade force-plate treadmill, capturing every stride in real time with unparalleled accuracy. This technology provides immediate, high-resolution data without the need for reflective markers or lengthy setup—allowing for rapid, precise insight into how your body interacts with the ground, absorbs force, and generates propulsion.

    What to expect:
Your session begins with a brief static movement screen to establish baseline mobility, posture, and strength patterns. From there, we move into the treadmill portion of the test, where multiple running speeds are captured using 3D motion analysis and force-plate data. After the run, we review the findings together—walking through your key metrics, asymmetries, loading patterns, and opportunities for improvement. You’ll leave with a clear understanding of what the data means and 1–2 actionable strategies to begin addressing the findings right away.

Whether you’re new to running, rebuilding from injury, or fine-tuning for elite performance, the information from this test delivers meaningful direction. For developing runners, it helps establish healthy movement patterns early. For injured athletes, it identifies the underlying mechanical factors that may contribute to pain or compensation. And for competitive runners, it quantifies stride efficiency and asymmetries that can be the key to unlocking higher performance.

A PDF report is included with the gait analysis test.

VO2 max and

tests

Schedule
  • VO₂ Max Test

VO₂ max testing provides one of the clearest windows into your cardiovascular and metabolic fitness—but at The Gait Lab, we go far beyond the number itself. Using our research-grade metabolic cart, we measure oxygen consumption, ventilation, heart rate, and energy use across progressively harder workloads, giving you a precise picture of your true aerobic capacity and training zones.

    What to Expect

Your session begins with a short warm-up on the treadmill to establish comfortable running mechanics and baseline physiology. We then transition into a graded exercise protocol, where the treadmill speed or incline increases gradually while we continuously measure your oxygen and carbon dioxide exchange. The test continues until you reach your physiological limit, followed by a cool-down and initial review of your data and breathing profile.

In addition to identifying your VO₂ max, we analyze how your body shifts between fat and carbohydrate utilization as intensity rises—including your FatMax, the point where fat oxidation peaks. These values help pinpoint your aerobic and anaerobic thresholds, reveal how efficiently you use fuel, and define the training zones that improve endurance, performance, and metabolic health. Whether you’re building base fitness, preparing for competition, or returning from injury, this test ensures every training effort is purposeful and appropriately targeted.

Strength

Test

Schedule
  • Strength Testing

Strength is one of the most important—and most measurable—factors in performance and injury prevention. Using fix-belted dynamometers, we quantify the strength of 13 key muscle groups across the hips, thighs, and calves, calculating each muscle group’s strength-to-body-weight ratio and comparing results to published normative data. We also evaluate muscle balance ratios, such as hamstring-to-quadriceps strength, providing a clearer understanding of how your system functions as a whole.

    What to Expect

Your session begins with isolated strength testing using belt-fixed dynamometers to ensure highly accurate, repeatable measurements. Each muscle group is tested for the peak force its able to produce , with clear verbal cues to help you generate consistent maximal effort. From there, we assess trunk endurance with standardized protocols and evaluate flexibility across six key motions to understand how mobility may influence your movement or loading patterns. Every test is objective and data-driven, giving you a reliable snapshot of strength, balance, and capacity.

Each assessment includes a detailed written report summarizing every measurement, identifying where you’re strong, where imbalances exist, and where you may be at increased risk for injury. These insights make it easy to prioritize your strength work, track progress over time, and build a more durable, powerful foundation for running and athletic performance.

The Combined Tests:

Our Combined Tests bring everything together for the most complete view of your movement and performance. By integrating data across strength, gait, and metabolic testing, we can uncover the sources of inefficiency, fatigue, or injury — not just the symptoms. These packages offer multiple options to fit your goals and provide the best value for athletes who want a deeper, data-driven understanding of how their body moves and performs.

  • The most complete assessment offered at The Gait Lab. This 3–4 hour intensive combines research-grade gait analysis, VO₂ max testing, resting metabolic rate analysis, and comprehensive strength assessment into one seamless, in-depth session. It’s the closest you can get to a full biomechanical and metabolic profile—linking how you move, how strong you are, and how efficiently your body produces and uses energy.

Across this session, we evaluate both the external drivers of movement—strength, flexibility, stability, and control—and the internal systems that fuel them, including oxygen utilization, fat and carbohydrate metabolism, aerobic and anaerobic thresholds, resting metabolic efficiency, and training-zone precision. You’ll leave with a clear interpretation of every test, a unified understanding of how all your systems work together, and a precise plan for how to apply the findings to your training, recovery, and long-term performance goals.

    Appt length: 3–4 hours | $925

  • Our most comprehensive testing package for runners and endurance athletes. By pairing research-grade gait analysis with metabolic testing, this session connects how you move with how efficiently you use energy—revealing the full picture of your performance, strengths, and limiters.

This combination uncovers the root causes of inefficiency, fatigue, or plateaued progress by linking stride mechanics, loading patterns, and asymmetries with your aerobic capacity, threshold values, FatMax, and individualized training zones. It allows us to pinpoint exactly how your movement impacts your physiology (and vice versa), giving you a clear, data-driven roadmap for both injury prevention and improved performance. Whether you're training for a race, rebuilding after injury, or looking to optimize every part of your running, this test delivers insight you simply cannot get anywhere else.
